ALWAR: In an exchange of fire between Dholpur police and suspected ‘bajri’ (sand) mafia, a minor boy was killed and a police constable injured on Thursday. The incident happened in Badi Sadar police station area in Paguli village forest area when cops fired at the alleged ‘bajri’ mafia who had pelted stones at them.
When the cops returned fire, a bullet hit Rohit Jaduan, who is said to be just over 17-year-old.
During the exchange of fire, constable Vivek Kumar was also injured.
Following the incident, a large crowd gathered and extra policemen had to be deployed.
Bari MLA Giriraj Singh Malinga reached the spot and condoled Jadaun’s death. He also hit out at the cops and said, “Bharatpur range IG is involved in this illegal ‘bajri’ mafia. That is the reason for this situation in the region. Without police support, it is not possible to illegally transport ‘bajri’.”
Meanwhile, Bharatpur IG Lakshman Gaur refuted the claim and said, “These are totally baseless allegations. It is due to the alertness of Dholpur police that ‘bajri’ mafia has been contained. Police only fired in defence in this case after suspected mafia pelted stones at them.”
This is not the 1st time that this has happened“We will talk to Jadaun’s family as well. Action will be taken against those persons who attacked cops and prevented them from doing their duty,” Bharatpur IG Lakshman Gaur said.
This is not the first time that there has been an exchange of fire between Dholpur police and bajri mafia. Last year, on August 30 , the quick response team (QRT) and the local police had intercepted a convoy of tractors transporting illegally mined sand. Though the police party tried to stop them, the criminals reportedly fired at the police. Two persons, involved in the incident, were killed and four others, including two constables, were injured.
